Netanyahu Demands International Action Against Iran Following Missile Strikes
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stark appeal to global leaders, urging them to align with the United States and Israel in a concerted war effort against Iran. This call to action comes in the wake of recent missile attacks by Iran on Israeli territory, which Netanyahu described as a clear demonstration of a growing threat to international security.
Recent Attacks Highlight Iran's Global Danger
Speaking from the site of a missile strike in Arad, Israel, Netanyahu emphasized that developments over the past 48 hours prove Iran poses a danger not only to Israel but to the wider world. He detailed how Iran targeted civilian areas and key religious sites in Jerusalem, including the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
"If you want proof that Iran endangers the entire world, the last 48 hours have given it," Netanyahu stated. "In the last 48 hours, Iran targeted a civilian area. They're doing that as a mass murder weapon. Luckily, no one was killed, but that's due to luck, not their intention. Their intention is to murder civilians."
He further explained that Iran's actions endangered holy sites of the three monotheistic faiths, narrowly avoiding casualties through what he termed a miracle. Netanyahu also claimed Iran has showcased long-range strike capabilities, targeting strategic maritime and energy routes, thereby attempting to blackmail the global community.
Injuries and Damage from Iranian Missile Strikes
The Israeli Prime Minister's remarks follow a series of ballistic missile attacks by Iran on the southern Israeli towns of Arad and Dimona. According to reports:
- Over 100 people, including children, were injured in the strikes.
- More than 80 injuries occurred in Arad alone, as confirmed by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).
- Extensive damage was inflicted on residential areas, overwhelming local emergency services.
- Hospitals treated dozens for shrapnel wounds, broken bones, and shock, with some in serious condition.
In a statement on social media, the Israeli Foreign Ministry labeled the attacks as "a blatant war crime" and "pure terrorism," accusing Iran of deliberately targeting civilians. Rescue crews worked through the night to aid the wounded and clear debris from collapsed buildings.
Netanyahu's Call for Global Unity and Response
Netanyahu framed the conflict as a pivotal moment in the battle for the future, vowing that Israel would respond to ensure its security. He welcomed calls by US President Donald Trump for broader international action against Iran, describing it as essential for global security.
"President Trump's call to have the international community confront this fanatic terrorist regime of zealots is a call not only for the security of America and the security of Israel; it's for the security of the entire world," Netanyahu said. "It's time for them to act."
He noted that while some world leaders are beginning to move in this direction, more support is needed. The Iranian attacks are seen as retaliation for a strike on Iran's Natanz nuclear facility, which Tehran blamed on a joint US-Israeli operation—an allegation Israel has denied. Iranian military spokespeople claimed their missiles were aimed at strategic targets but did not dispute that towns were hit.
This escalating situation underscores the urgent need for international cooperation, as Netanyahu stresses that stopping Iran's regime is crucial for maintaining peace and security worldwide.
