Nagpur Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Rain and Thunderstorms with Yellow Alert

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Nagpur, predicting rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday. This development offers a brief respite from the intense summer heat that has gripped the region. However, the relief may be short-lived, as the IMD has also issued a yellow heatwave alert for April 23 and 24, indicating temperatures are set to soar again later this week.

Temperatures Dip Slightly with Overnight Rainfall

Overnight, temperatures in Nagpur and surrounding areas experienced a marginal decline following light spells of rain in nearby districts. On Monday, the maximum temperature dropped by approximately 2 degrees Celsius, thanks to cool breezes, increased cloud cover, and pre-monsoon activity that helped mitigate the scorching heat. Despite this dip, discomfort persists due to high minimum temperatures that have remained elevated.

Vidarbha District Temperatures Show Marginal Decline

According to IMD data for the Vidarbha region, key districts recorded the following maximum temperatures: Amravati at 43.4°C, Akola at 43.2°C, Nagpur at 42.4°C, and Wardha at 42.5°C. These figures represent a slight decrease of 1-2 degrees compared to previous days. Chandrapur and Yavatmal maintained temperatures above 41°C, while Buldhana recorded a relatively lower 40.5°C. The persistent high minimum temperatures continue to contribute to overall discomfort for residents.

Isolated Rainfall and Thunderstorms Across the Region

Light rainfall was reported at isolated locations in several districts, including Chandrapur, Buldhana, and Akola. Additionally, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal experienced brief spells of rain. The weather activity was accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour at some isolated spots. IMD officials have indicated that such intermittent weather patterns may continue, providing temporary relief before heatwave conditions reemerge later in the week.

IMD officials emphasize that while the current rain and thunderstorms offer a welcome break from the heat, residents should prepare for the return of high temperatures. The yellow heatwave alert for April 23 and 24 serves as a reminder that summer conditions are far from over. Monitoring weather updates and taking necessary precautions is advised to stay safe during these fluctuating conditions.
