Nagpur and Akola Experience Weather Relief with Evening Thunderstorms

On Monday evening, numerous areas in Nagpur witnessed light rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds, transforming a warm night into a cool and breezy one. This sudden change in weather brought much-needed relief to residents after a day of intense heat, with temperatures soaring to around 40°C, which is typical for late March in the city. As clouds gathered and showers commenced, a pleasant drop in temperature was felt across several localities, offering a refreshing break from the sweltering conditions.

IMD Issues Orange Alert for Vidarbha Region

Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department had issued an Orange Alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rainfall with wind speeds reaching 40-60 kmph in parts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur. This alert highlighted the potential for severe weather conditions, urging residents to take necessary precautions. The brief spell of rain is expected to provide temporary respite from the ongoing heatwave conditions that have been gripping the region, though it may not last long.

Akola and Amravati District Also Affected

In Akola, which recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius during the day, rain accompanied by thunderstorms occurred in the night, further cooling the area. Meanwhile, in Amravati district's Melghat region, heavy showers were recorded as early as the afternoon, catching farmers off guard. This unseasonal rain has reportedly caused damage to Rabi crops, with farmers also reporting losses to onion and watermelon crops, adding to agricultural concerns in the region.
