Lucknow Records Season's Lowest Temperature at 5.6°C
Lucknow shivered on Tuesday as the city recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season. The mercury plunged to 5.6 degrees Celsius. A north-westerly wind pushed colder air into the region, making mornings and nights feel particularly chilly. Sunshine during the day kept conditions stable, but the cold bite was unmistakable.
IMD Issues Warning for Colder Days and Dense Fog
The India Meteorological Department has issued a clear warning. They predict a further drop in temperature and dense fog in Lucknow starting from Wednesday. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 22°C, while minimums could fall to about 7°C. This forecast signals a continuation of the cold spell gripping the city.
Tuesday's Weather Data and Humidity Levels
On Tuesday, Lucknow's maximum temperature reached 21.7°C. This reading was about 1.0°C above the normal level for this time of year. In contrast, the minimum temperature of 5.6°C was approximately 1.6°C below the seasonal average. Humidity levels showed a significant variation throughout the day. They started at a high of 90% in the morning and dropped sharply to 29% by the afternoon.
Scientific Explanation for the Temperature Drop
Mohammad Danish, a scientist at the IMD in Lucknow, provided an explanation for the sudden chill. He stated that the fall in temperature results from a shift in wind direction. A western disturbance has moved away from the region. Now, cold north-westerly winds are bringing cooler air from the northern plains into Uttar Pradesh. This change has caused a drop of 1 to 3 degrees in both day and night temperatures across most parts of the state.
Danish emphasized that dense fog and a further temperature drop are expected in the coming days. Although no cold wave alert has been issued for Lucknow specifically, mornings will definitely feel colder over the next two days.
Cold Spell Intensifies in Western Uttar Pradesh
The cold spell has been even stronger in western Uttar Pradesh. Several districts reported cold wave conditions. Areas like Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and Bareilly experienced particularly harsh weather. Minimum temperatures in some parts dropped below 4°C, making conditions quite severe for residents.
This widespread chill across the state underscores the impact of the shifting weather patterns. People in Lucknow and surrounding regions should prepare for colder mornings and potential fog disruptions in the days ahead.
