Residents of Kolkata experienced a slight uptick in the night-time chill on Thursday as the city's minimum temperature climbed above the 16-degree Celsius mark after a brief spell of cooler mornings.

Current Weather Conditions in the City of Joy

After staying below 16 degrees Celsius for the past two days, the mercury recorded a minimum of 16.7°C on Thursday. This reading, as noted by the Regional Meteorological Centre, was 1.6°C above the normal average for this time of the year. The daytime maximum temperature also saw a marginal increase, moving from 25.3 degrees Celsius to 26 degrees Celsius.

What Does the Forecast Say?

The weather office has indicated that Kolkatans can expect the current pleasant conditions to persist for the next few days. No significant change in temperature is anticipated immediately. The maximum temperature is likely to hover between 26°C and 27°C, while the minimum is expected to remain in the range of 16°C to 17°C.

"We do not expect any remarkable change for now," stated H R Biswas, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata. He added a note for later in the month, suggesting that a further dip in the mercury could occur after December 24.

A Look Back at December's Chill

This month has already witnessed a couple of notably cooler mornings. The mercury has dipped below the 15°C threshold twice in December. The season's lowest minimum temperature so far was 14.5°C, recorded on December 6.

For now, the city enjoys a respite from the sharper cold, with forecasts promising continued pleasant weather, offering ideal conditions for winter outings and festivities as the year draws to a close.
