The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in seven districts of Kerala on Saturday. The affected districts include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki. The alert for isolated heavy rain across the state will remain in effect until Sunday.
Thunderstorm and Wind Warning
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected to continue until Tuesday. The IMD has also cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea due to adverse conditions.
Recent Rainfall Data
The state experienced heavy rainfall on Thursday evening. Padannakkad in Kasargod recorded 9 cm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending Friday morning. Thalassery and Cheruvanchery in Kannur each recorded 7 cm of rainfall.
Sunday Yellow Alert
On Sunday, a yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod districts. Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions.
Sea Conditions
Squally weather with wind speeds of 40 to 50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, is likely along and off the Kerala coast on Saturday. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into these areas.
