Kanpur's Monday Warmth Gives Way to Forecast of Colder Nights
Residents of Kanpur felt an unusual warmth on Monday as both daytime and nighttime temperatures climbed above normal levels. The city's maximum temperature reached 26 degrees Celsius, which is about 5.4 degrees higher than the seasonal average. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 8 degrees Celsius, marking a rise of 1.4 notches above normal.
Weather Conditions and Visibility Concerns
High relative humidity levels peaked at 95% during the day. North-westerly winds blew gently at around 2 kilometers per hour. These conditions led to fog formation in the morning and evening hours, potentially affecting visibility. Pollution combined with the fog may continue to reduce visibility during these times in the coming days.
Weather expert Sunil Pandey from CSA University commented on the situation. He stated that night temperatures across Uttar Pradesh, including the Kanpur division, are likely to fluctuate by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius in the near future. While rainfall remains unlikely for Kanpur specifically, isolated drizzle cannot be completely ruled out.
IMD's Warning and Upcoming Weather System
The India Meteorological Department issued a cautionary note on Monday. They indicated the development of a new weather system influenced by an upcoming western disturbance. This system is expected to become active between January 19 and 21, bringing changes to weather conditions across Uttar Pradesh.
From January 22 to 25, the IMD forecasts cloudy skies and light rainfall in both western and eastern parts of the state. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may occur at isolated places on January 23 and 24. Gusty winds with speeds reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour could prevail during this period.
Once this weather system passes, cold days and chilly conditions may intensify again. The IMD advises residents to keep their layers handy despite the recent warm spell.
