Indore Wakes Up to Fog as Weather Fluctuations Grip Madhya Pradesh
Residents of Indore encountered moderate fog on Monday morning, which significantly reduced visibility to approximately 600 meters across the city. The day remained partly cloudy, contributing to a noticeable drop in temperatures compared to previous days.
Temperature Variations and Meteorological Observations
The maximum temperature in Indore was recorded at 26.5 degrees Celsius, marking a substantial decrease from Monday's high of 29.9 degrees. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 14 degrees Celsius. According to the meteorological department, these conditions resulted from an active western disturbance influencing the region.
Divya Surendran from the Bhopal weather centre reported isolated rainfall in both the Indore and Ujjain divisions over the past 24 hours. Although no cold wave or cold day conditions were officially reported, clouding and thunderstorm activity persisted over northern and north-western parts of Madhya Pradesh.
Hailstorm Damage and Agricultural Impact
Weather fluctuations have severely affected several districts across the state. In Mandsaur district, hailstorms struck 22 villages within Malhargarh tehsil over the last 48 hours. Ekta Jaiswal, the additional district magistrate of Mandsaur, confirmed that a preliminary survey indicated extensive damage to crops.
Many of the affected villages cultivated opium, and the narcotics department will conduct a separate, dedicated survey to assess the impact on these fields. Authorities have also ordered a detailed survey of other crops, with plans to inspect every agricultural holding to determine the full extent of the damage.
Regional Weather Patterns and Farmer Distress
In Agar-Malwa, light drizzle continued on Tuesday morning following four days of winter rain and cold winds, which kept temperatures unusually low. Similarly, in Petlawad tehsil of Jhabua district, unseasonal rain accompanied by gusty winds and hail flattened wheat crops across several villages. Local farmers have reported heavy losses due to these adverse weather conditions.
Cold conditions intensified in Dhar, where the minimum temperature dropped to 13.5 degrees Celsius, and dense fog further reduced visibility during morning hours. These widespread weather disruptions highlight the vulnerability of agricultural communities in the region.
Weather Forecast and Future Outlook
Looking ahead, meteorological officials predict isolated rain with thunderstorms in northern Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. Central regions are expected to experience shallow to moderate fog, while the northern belt may encounter dense fog conditions.
From February 4 onwards, conditions are likely to turn dry as the weather system moves eastward. However, fog might persist in certain areas, continuing to affect daily life and agricultural activities across the state.
