IMD Predicts Dry Spell, Rising Temperatures in Bengal

Bengal Braces for Extended Dry Weather and Warming Trend

The India Meteorological Department has issued a clear forecast for West Bengal. Residents should prepare for a prolonged dry spell this week. The weather pattern shows stable conditions with characteristic misty mornings.

Week-Long Dry Conditions Expected

According to the latest weather bulletin, dry weather will likely prevail across all districts of both North and South Bengal through January 26. The week began with warm and sunny conditions in Kolkata. On Monday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4°C. The minimum settled at 15.5°C.

Morning hours started with mist but skies cleared significantly by midday. The seven-day forecast maintains this pattern. While skies will remain largely clear, shallow to moderate fog may reduce visibility during early mornings. This fog could limit visibility to between 200 meters and 999 meters at one or two places.

Temperature Rise Throughout the Week

Expect a noticeable rise in mercury levels as the dry spell continues. Tuesday's forecast shows temperatures peaking at 31.7°C during afternoon hours. The early morning low will climb slightly to 17.4°C. Similar to Monday, Tuesday should begin with shallow fog before turning sunny.

The warming trend reaches its peak mid-week. Wednesday's daytime temperatures may hit approximately 32.2°C. Night-time conditions will feel less chilly than typical January standards. The minimum temperature will likely settle around 18.5°C.

This combination of high heat and low humidity creates dry afternoon conditions. Stability remains the theme for Thursday. The maximum temperature will hover near 32.4°C. Early morning hours offer some relief at 19.2°C. Consistent sunshine throughout the day keeps the city feeling warmer than usual for this season.

Weekend Heat Intensifies

Friday maintains steady heat with a high of 32.8°C. Minimum temperatures stay consistent at 19.2°C. While some parts of the country might experience wind changes, Kolkata expects dry conditions. Clear skies and high visibility will follow morning mist dissipation.

The heat intensifies further on Saturday. Maximum temperatures potentially reach 33.9°C. This makes it one of the hottest days of the month. Minimum temperatures see a small uptick, settling around 19.7°C. This suggests relatively warm nights for January according to weather officials.

The week concludes with a slight temperature dip but remains warm. Sunday's forecast shows a maximum of 33.2°C. The minimum temperature reaches its highest point for the week at 20°C. This marks significant departure from cooler winter nights experienced earlier in January.

Regional Variations Across Bengal

South Bengal experiences a slight mercury shift. Minimum temperatures rise by 2-3°C over the next 48 hours. No significant changes occur thereafter. In South Bengal, Kalyani in Nadia district recorded the lowest temperature at 9.6°C. Panagarh followed at 9.8°C.

North Bengal shows different patterns. Night temperatures remain steady with no large changes throughout the week. Darjeeling recorded a minimum of 4.4°C. Kalimpong stood at 9.5°C. According to weather department data, most other places saw mercury levels between 10°C and 13°C.

Salt Lake on Kolkata's outskirts recorded a higher minimum of 14.3°C. The overall pattern indicates warmer than average conditions across the state. Residents should prepare for dry afternoons and misty mornings throughout the forecast period.
