IMD Issues Nationwide Alert for Erratic Weather Conditions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a critical weather bulletin, confirming reports of erratic weather conditions prevailing across many parts of the country. According to the latest predictions, rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds are expected to impact numerous regions, driven by western disturbances and cyclonic circulations.
Western Disturbances and Cyclonic Circulations Drive Weather Changes
The bulletin, issued on April 7 at night, identifies western disturbances along with cyclonic circulations as the primary causes behind the significant weather pattern change. This phenomenon is particularly influential in north India during the pre-monsoon period, where the interaction between western disturbances and cyclonic circulations in northwest and central India is set to bring light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning.
Key regions affected include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on April 8, with gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in the Kashmir Valley and Himachal Pradesh, with scattered to fairly widespread rain showers expected in these areas.
Warnings for Thunderstorms and Hailstorms Across Multiple States
IMD has issued specific warnings for thundersqualls, especially in Rajasthan, where wind speeds may escalate to 70 kmph. Hailstorms pose a major threat due to the prevailing conditions, with isolated hail showers predicted in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, potentially spreading to Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh on April 8.
Eastern and Northeastern India on High Alert
Eastern states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand are also on alert, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in the coming days. Thundersqualls with wind speeds of 80 kmph are likely in Gangetic West Bengal on April 8, accompanied by isolated heavy showers in Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. Isolated hailstorms may occur in parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
In the northeast region, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, fairly widespread rain along with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected for most of the week, with Arunachal Pradesh possibly experiencing isolated heavy showers on multiple occasions.
Central and Western India Experience Scattered Weather Activity
Central India, covering Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, will witness showers, lightning, and gusty winds until April 9, with potential hailstorms in some localities on April 8. Western India, particularly Gujarat, will see lighter yet significant weather activity, including isolated showers, lightning, and gusty winds, followed by hot and humid conditions.
South India Faces Mixed Weather Patterns
Southern parts of India, including coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Karnataka, are forecast to experience isolated showers and lightning. Unlike the north, higher humidity levels are prevalent, with hot and humid conditions specifically predicted for Kerala and coastal Karnataka, highlighting the contrasting weather patterns across the country.
Temperature Trends and Future Outlook
IMD observations indicate a decrease in maximum temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius in northwest India, with temperatures expected to remain below normal for the coming days. While rainfall activity is projected to ease after April 9, leading to dry weather in regions like Delhi and its surroundings, a new wave of wetness may approach the Western Himalayas from April 11.
This comprehensive weather alert underscores the need for preparedness as erratic conditions continue to dominate the Indian atmosphere, affecting daily life and activities nationwide.
