In a concerning incident highlighting threats to local wildlife, forest department officials in Hazaribag successfully rescued a distressed jackal on Monday. The animal is suspected to have fallen ill after consuming poisoned food items.
Morning Alert Leads to Swift Rescue
The operation began when alert locals spotted the jackal in a weakened state, lying near the Budhwa Mahadev temple at Mahudi Hill. They promptly informed the forest authorities, who arrived at the scene to assist the animal.
Upon examination, officials found suspicious items near the jackal. Locals reported seeing a suspicious ampule and biscuits next to the animal, leading to the immediate suspicion of deliberate poisoning.
Treatment and Investigation Underway
The rescued jackal was quickly transported to the Barkagaon range office for necessary treatment and care. Range Officer Kamlesh Singh provided an update on the animal's condition, stating it is currently being kept under close observation by the forest staff.
Singh assured that the plan is to release the jackal back into its natural wild habitat once it makes a full recovery. Meanwhile, the forest department has not taken the incident lightly.
Probe Launched to Find Culprits
A formal investigation has been initiated to uncover the circumstances behind this act. “A probe is being conducted to find out who poisoned the animal and why,” confirmed Range Officer Singh. The discovery of the ampule and biscuits points towards a deliberate attempt to harm wildlife, an act that carries legal consequences.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by poison to wildlife and the importance of community vigilance in protecting local fauna.
