Himachal Pradesh Weather Alert: Orange and Yellow Warnings Issued for Thunderstorms
The weather department on Wednesday issued significant alerts for Himachal Pradesh, predicting light rain in the low and mid hills alongside light snow in the high hills of the state. The department has also activated orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms and lightning, effective for three days starting from April 17.
District-Specific Weather Warnings
An orange alert, indicating a higher level of caution, has been issued for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds targeting the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi. Concurrently, a yellow alert, signaling a lower but still significant risk, was declared for Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur districts specifically for April 17.
Furthermore, a yellow alert for thunderstorms has been extended to Shimla, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi districts, covering both April 17 and 18. Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions against potential weather disruptions.
Recent Rainfall Data and Temperature Records
According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, the state has experienced substantial rainfall from April 1 to 15, recording 57.4 mm of precipitation. This figure represents an 81% increase above the normal level of 31.7 mm for this period.
The highest rainfall during this timeframe was observed in Shimla with 86.1 mm, closely followed by Mandi at 85.1 mm, Solan with 84.1 mm, and Bilaspur recording 80.8 mm. These numbers highlight the intensified weather activity across the region.
Meanwhile, temperature records show that Keylong in Lahaul Spiti district registered the lowest minimum temperature of 1.3°C on Wednesday, underscoring the chilly conditions in higher altitudes.
