The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an urgent warning as a heatwave advances rapidly across several parts of the country. Temperatures are expected to soar to 43 degrees Celsius by Tuesday, prompting the IMD to extend its heat warning through Saturday. Residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions against the scorching heat.
Rapid Temperature Rise
According to the IMD, the heatwave is progressing faster than initially anticipated. Maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, with many regions already experiencing above-normal heat. The warning has been extended to Saturday, indicating prolonged severe conditions.
Affected Regions
The heatwave is expected to impact parts of northwest and central India, including states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. These areas may witness temperatures crossing the 43°C mark, with some pockets possibly reaching 45°C. The IMD has cautioned that the heatwave could lead to health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Precautionary Measures
Authorities have urged people to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities. The IMD also recommends wearing light clothing, using sunglasses and hats, and checking on elderly neighbors. Schools in some regions may adjust timings to protect children from the extreme heat.
Weather Forecast
The heatwave conditions are likely to persist until the weekend, with a slight relief expected after Saturday. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as necessary. Residents are advised to follow official guidelines and stay tuned to weather alerts.
