Gurgaon Sees Shallow Fog and Notable Temperature Decline
Residents of Gurgaon woke up to shallow fog and significantly cooler conditions on Saturday morning, as temperatures fell sharply from the previous day. The minimum temperature recorded in the city dropped to 13.1 degrees Celsius, a notable decline from Friday's 16.3 degrees Celsius, making the morning distinctly chillier.
Detailed Temperature Observations Across Monitoring Stations
At the NorthCap University monitoring station, the minimum temperature also showed a marked decrease, falling to 14.9 degrees Celsius from 17 degrees Celsius recorded just a day earlier. While the maximum temperature data was unavailable from the Gurgaon KVK station, observations from NorthCap University provided clarity, indicating a daytime temperature of 28.1 degrees Celsius. This represented a significant increase from the previous day's 22.5 degrees Celsius, as clear skies returned later in the day, reducing haze and leading to warmer afternoon conditions.
Expert Analysis on Fog Formation and Weather Patterns
Weather experts attributed the fog formation to specific atmospheric conditions. Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet India, explained that recent rainfall has increased moisture levels near the surface. "With overnight cooling under relatively calm wind conditions, this moisture condensed to form fog in the lower levels of the atmosphere," he stated. Palawat added that this fog is not expected to persist, as temperatures are projected to rise gradually with increased sunlight during the day.
So far this month, Gurgaon has received 12mm of rainfall, which is approximately 40% above the normal average of 8mm. This excess moisture has played a crucial role in the recent weather phenomena.
Current Weather Systems and IMD Forecast for Coming Days
The current weather patterns are being influenced by a western disturbance, visible as a trough extending from north Haryana to north Chhattisgarh across Uttar Pradesh and east Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan at lower levels. Another weak western disturbance is likely to approach northwest India around March 26.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places in Haryana on March 22, 23, 26, and 27. On Sunday, districts such as Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, and Bhiwani may receive rainfall. The activity is expected to extend to areas including Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Mewat, and Palwal on Monday.
Temperature Trends and Detailed Forecast for Sunday
The maximum temperature is expected to rise by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius over the next four days. This increase will be gradual, with intermittent cloud cover likely to prevent any sharp rise in daytime temperatures. For Sunday, the forecast predicts mostly clear skies, with minimum and maximum temperatures likely to be around 13 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.
In summary, Gurgaon experienced a cool, foggy morning followed by clearer, warmer conditions, with significant rainfall expected across Haryana in the coming days as per IMD predictions.
