The Greater Bangalore Agenda (GBA) has unveiled a comprehensive Rs 28 crore plan aimed at bolstering climate action in Bengaluru. The initiative focuses on enhancing the city's resilience to climate change through targeted interventions in green infrastructure, waste management, and water conservation.
Key Components of the Plan
The proposed plan includes the development of urban forests, expansion of green cover, and implementation of sustainable drainage systems to mitigate flooding. Additionally, it emphasizes the need for improved waste segregation and recycling facilities to reduce landfill burden.
Water Conservation Measures
Under the plan, GBA has proposed the rejuvenation of lakes and the creation of rainwater harvesting structures across the city. These measures aim to augment groundwater levels and ensure water security during dry spells.
Community Engagement
The plan also stresses the importance of public participation in climate action. It includes awareness campaigns and incentives for citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices, such as composting and using public transport.
GBA officials stated that the plan aligns with the national mission on climate change and aims to make Bengaluru a model for urban sustainability. The proposal is expected to be presented to the state government for approval and funding.
