Four Workers Killed, Three Injured in Itanagar Landslide and Building Wall Collapse
A devastating incident struck the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday afternoon, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries. At approximately 4 pm, a landslide triggered the collapse of a protection wall at a building under construction in the Niti Vihar area of Itanagar. The catastrophic event led to the deaths of four individuals and left three others with serious injuries, as confirmed by local officials.
Details of the Tragedy and Rescue Efforts
According to reports from authorities, seven workers were present at the construction site when the wall suddenly gave way, burying them under a massive pile of debris. Rescue teams, including personnel from the State Disaster Response Force, Itanagar police, and district administration officials, swiftly launched an operation upon being notified of the incident. They managed to pull out all seven victims from the wreckage.
Tragically, four of the rescued workers were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Choki Tasar, Ratan Burman, Godak Raja, and Godak Tabin. The three injured survivors, Tatung Tajit, Choki Takio, and Hasinoor Ali, were immediately rushed to Heema Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Their current conditions remain under close observation by healthcare professionals.
Challenges Faced During the Rescue Operation
The rescue mission was significantly hampered by adverse weather conditions, as continuous rainfall throughout the day posed severe challenges for the teams. Tamo Dadda, the assistant commissioner of Itanagar, explained that the heavy rain caused the soil to become dense and unstable, making it extremely difficult to locate the trapped victims accurately. "Because of the rain, the soil became dense and unstable, complicating our efforts to determine the precise location of the victims. Despite these obstacles, the rescue teams exerted every possible effort to retrieve them," Dadda stated, highlighting the dedication of the responders amidst the perilous environment.
The incident underscores the risks associated with construction activities during monsoon seasons in hilly regions like Arunachal Pradesh. Officials are now investigating the exact cause of the landslide and the structural integrity of the building to prevent similar tragedies in the future. This event has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about safety protocols at construction sites in the area.
