IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Cold Wave in 7 Jharkhand Districts
Cold Wave Yellow Alert for 7 Jharkhand Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ranchi has raised a yellow alert, warning residents of a looming cold wave set to grip isolated parts of Jharkhand. The alert is active for two days, starting from Wednesday, December 5.

Districts Under the Weather Scanner

The meteorological bulletin specifically identified seven districts that are likely to experience harsh cold conditions. The districts of Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Simdega have been put on alert. Authorities are advising people in these regions to take necessary precautions against the biting cold.

Forecasted Temperature Plunge and Recovery

According to the IMD's forecast, the minimum temperature across Jharkhand is expected to witness a significant decline over the coming days. Mercury levels are predicted to fall further by three to four degrees Celsius across the state over the next four days. This sharp drop will intensify the cold wave conditions, particularly in the alerted districts.

However, the bulletin also provided a slight respite, indicating that after this four-day period of intense cold, temperatures are likely to rebound. A rise of approximately three degrees Celsius is expected post this cold spell, offering some relief from the severe conditions.

Staying Safe During the Cold Wave

A yellow alert signifies that the weather conditions could cause some disruption. Residents, especially the vulnerable populations like the elderly and children, are advised to:

  • Wear adequate layers of warm clothing.
  • Avoid early morning and late evening exposure.
  • Ensure proper heating arrangements while being mindful of safety.
  • Stay updated with the latest forecasts from IMD.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will update its warnings as required. This alert highlights the onset of the winter season's peak in the region, demanding heightened awareness and preparedness from the public and local administrations alike.
