Telangana Braces for Cold Wave: Temperatures to Plummet from This Week
Cold Wave to Hit Telangana, Temperatures to Dip Sharply

The state of Telangana is set to experience a significant chill as weather officials have forecasted the arrival of a cold wave starting this week. The chilly conditions are expected to grip the region and persist until the middle of January, bringing a notable dip in temperatures across various districts.

Temperature Trends and District-Wide Readings

This warning comes despite the past four days recording relatively warmer minimum temperatures compared to the same period last year. In early 2025, parts of the state saw lows of nearly 7°C, whereas recent readings have hovered around 11°C. Meteorologists clarify that such short-term variations are typical during the winter season and signal that mercury levels are poised to fall again in the coming days.

Recent data highlights the cooling pattern. Sangareddy registered the state's lowest minimum temperature at 10.5°C. It was closely followed by Rangareddy at 10.9°C and Vikarabad at 11.2°C. Other districts like Narayanpet and Mahabubnagar recorded 11.7°C, while Medchal–Malkajgiri and Asifabad saw minimums of 11.8°C. Most other districts reported minimum temperatures ranging between 12°C and 15°C.

Hyderabad's Localized Weather Pattern

Within Hyderabad, temperatures showed considerable variation from one locality to another. Serilingampally emerged as the coldest area in the city at 11.2°C. Malkajgiri followed at 11.8°C, and Rajendranagar at 12.6°C. In contrast, central and southern parts of the city, including Charminar, Musheerabad, Khairatabad, and LB Nagar, remained relatively warmer with minimum temperatures between 16°C and 17.5°C.

IMD Forecast and Expected Conditions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted partly cloudy skies for the region. Residents should prepare for fog or mist during the early morning hours and hazy conditions at night. Dry weather is likely to prevail across Telangana over the next several days.

However, there is some relief on the horizon. The prevailing winter conditions are expected to gradually ease towards the end of January, marking a return to more moderate temperatures. Until then, authorities advise the public to take necessary precautions against the cold, especially during early mornings and late nights.
