Chhattisgarh Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Hail to Sweep State
Raipur: A significant weather shift is imminent in Chhattisgarh, with forecasts predicting rain, thunderstorms, and hail across the state over the next two days. This active weather pattern, driven by multiple meteorological systems, is expected to bring a slight dip in temperatures, offering some relief from the prevailing heat, although humidity levels will remain elevated.
IMD Forecast and Temperature Trends
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided detailed projections for the region. While no substantial change in maximum temperatures is anticipated in the immediate 24-hour period, a noticeable cooling of 1°C to 3°C is likely to follow over the subsequent two days. This cooling trend is attributed to the activation of various weather systems across Chhattisgarh. Daytime temperatures are currently holding steady, but a slight chill is expected to set in as the week progresses.
Weather Systems Driving the Change
The meteorological activity stems from several key factors. A western disturbance is currently active as a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab, extending between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above sea level. Additionally, a trough line stretches from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana, passing directly through Chhattisgarh at an altitude of 0.9 km. Further intensifying the situation, another cyclonic circulation persists over the West-Central Bay of Bengal and south coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Warnings and Expected Impacts
The Meteorological Centre in Raipur has issued a stern warning for thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, lightning, and hailstorms at isolated places throughout the state. Hail is predicted to primarily affect districts in central and north Chhattisgarh. Maximum temperatures across Chhattisgarh are projected to drop due to these prevailing conditions. Rainfall is forecast to cover all divisions of the state on Monday and Tuesday, with weather activity mostly confined to south Chhattisgarh by April 8.
Authorities have strongly advised residents to take necessary precautions against lightning and hailstorms during this period to ensure safety.
Recent Weather Events and Tragic Incident
In related developments, several parts of north and central Chhattisgarh, including Raipur, Bilaspur, and Raigarh, experienced heavy rain and thundershowers on Sunday morning. While this change brought temporary relief from intense heat, residents continue to grapple with high humidity levels.
Tragedy struck in Kondagaon district on Saturday when five cattle perished after being struck by lightning in the forest area of Betbeda village. This incident underscores the dangers associated with such severe weather conditions.
Rainfall Data and Outlook
Light to moderate rainfall was recorded across Chhattisgarh in the last 24 hours. Nangur received 30 mm of rain, while Jagdalpur recorded 10 mm. The Met department has indicated that while maximum temperatures may not change significantly in the next 24 hours, the overall weather pattern remains dynamic and warrants close monitoring.
