Chandigarh Braces for Rain and Thunderstorms from January 22, IMD Predicts
Chandigarh to See Rain, Thunderstorms from Jan 22: IMD

Residents of Chandigarh should prepare for a shift in weather conditions later this week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that rain is likely to return to the city starting January 22. This change comes after a period of dry and relatively warm weather that many have enjoyed.

Active Western Disturbance Brings Rain

An active western disturbance is currently influencing northwest India. This weather system is expected to bring precipitation to Chandigarh and surrounding areas. The IMD predicts that light to moderate rain will occur at isolated places in the city between Thursday and Saturday.

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

The rainfall may not be gentle. Forecasters warn that the spell could be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are also possible at a few locations. These conditions could make for a dramatic change from the recent calm.

Skies will remain partly cloudy through much of this period. However, they are likely to turn more overcast by January 24. This increase in cloud cover signals the approach of the wet weather.

Recent Weather Conditions in Chandigarh

On Tuesday, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 24.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature settled around 6 degrees Celsius. Pleasant daytime sunshine continued to offer relief to residents. Yet mornings and nights remained distinctly chilly.

Dry Spell to Continue Briefly

The weather is expected to stay mostly dry until January 21. Partly cloudy skies will dominate during these days. Maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 24 degrees Celsius on January 20, 21, and 22. Minimum temperatures may remain in the range of 6 to 7 degrees Celsius.

This forecast suggests a gradual transition. The city will move from its current dry and pleasant state into a wetter and potentially stormier phase. People in Chandigarh should keep umbrellas and warm clothing handy as the week progresses.
