The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has increased its climate budget by 27 percent to Rs 20,730 crore for the financial year 2026-27. This significant hike underscores the civic body's commitment to addressing climate-related challenges in Mumbai.
Ward-Level Climate Planning
The FY 2026-27 budget also expands ward-level climate planning through pilot projects in four wards — G/N, G/S, F/N and F/S. These initiatives aim to develop localized responses to climate vulnerabilities, ensuring that specific community needs are addressed.
Focus on Sustainability
By allocating substantial funds, BMC aims to enhance urban resilience, improve green infrastructure, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The pilot projects will serve as models for future city-wide implementation.
This budget increase reflects a proactive approach to environmental sustainability, positioning Mumbai as a leader in climate adaptation among Indian cities.
