Hailstorm Causes Widespread Damage in Arunachal Pradesh's Banderdewa Circle
A powerful hailstorm struck the Banderdewa circle in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, causing significant destruction to residential properties and essential infrastructure. According to official reports released on Wednesday, more than 20 houses across various locations have sustained severe damage, with roofs torn off and household items ruined.
Extensive Property and Livelihood Losses Reported
The storm's fury resulted in roofs being blown away from numerous homes, leading to the destruction of critical supplies such as food grains and clothing. On Wednesday, Banderdewa Circle Officer Taba Milka conducted a thorough assessment of the affected areas, which include the Pichola, Tani Hapa, and Gorubanda panchayat segments. The damage assessment revealed not only residential losses but also impacts on key economic sectors.
Agriculture, horticulture, and fisheries have been adversely affected at multiple sites, threatening local livelihoods and food security. Additionally, the hailstorm caused substantial harm to electrical infrastructure, with electric poles and transmission lines damaged. Officials have warned that power supply may remain disrupted for the next 2-3 days as repair efforts are underway.
Community and Official Response to the Natural Disaster
Local authorities are mobilizing resources to address the immediate needs of affected residents and restore normalcy. The disruption to power and essential services underscores the vulnerability of frontier regions to extreme weather events. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities in strategically important areas like Arunachal Pradesh, where natural disasters can compound existing socio-economic pressures.
The hailstorm serves as a stark reminder of the need for robust disaster preparedness and resilient infrastructure in remote and border regions. As recovery operations continue, officials are focusing on providing aid to those displaced and assessing long-term rehabilitation measures to mitigate future risks.
