Residents of Andhra Pradesh are set to bundle up for the next three days as a significant dip in minimum temperatures brings unseasonably chilly mornings to parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department's observations indicate that coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and the Rayalaseema regions are experiencing temperatures 2°C to 3°C below normal, a trend expected to persist.
Mercury Plummets Across Key Districts
Data from Friday, December 19, paints a clear picture of the cold snap. In the Rayalaseema region, Anantapur recorded a low of 14°C. Other notable minimums included Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district at 14.5°C, Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam at 14.7°C, and Arogyavaram in Annamayya district at 15°C. Most other areas across Andhra Pradesh saw minimums hovering between 16°C and 19°C.
Single-Digit Chill Grips Alluri Sitharama Raju District
The cold has been particularly biting in the Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district, where eight locations shivered through single-digit Celsius temperatures. Authorities at the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) in Chintapalle reported the following lows:
- Dumbriguda: 4.4°C
- Munchingputtu: 4.6°C
- G Madugula: 4.7°C
- Araku Valley: 4.9°C
- Pedabayalu: 5.7°C
- Chintapalle: 6.5°C
- Paderu: 7.1°C

The remaining locations within the ASR district registered minimum temperatures ranging from 10°C to 14°C on the same day.
Dry Weather Forecast to Continue
The IMD has forecast that dry weather conditions are likely to prevail over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema for the next few days. This lack of cloud cover typically allows heat to escape more readily at night, contributing to the lower minimum temperatures experienced during the early morning hours. Residents, especially in the affected interior and hilly regions, are advised to take necessary precautions against the cold.
