Ahmedabad Swelters as Mercury Touches 40.9°C Amid Western Disturbance Influence

The city of Ahmedabad experienced partly cloudy skies on Friday, a condition attributed to the influence of a Western Disturbance. This weather system was accompanied by a trough and an upper-air cyclonic circulation positioned over Rajasthan. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures soared significantly above seasonal norms.

Temperature Records and IMD Forecast

The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad reached a scorching 40.9 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees above the normal expected level for this time of year. According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature on Saturday is likely to hover around 41 degrees Celsius, indicating no immediate respite from the heat.

The minimum temperature recorded in the city was 26.4 degrees Celsius, registering 2.1 degrees above the normal benchmark. This combination of high daytime and nighttime temperatures contributes to uncomfortable living conditions and increased heat stress for residents.

Statewide Weather Outlook and Heat Patterns

The IMD forecast for the entire state of Gujarat indicates no significant change in maximum temperatures over the next seven days. Maximum temperatures are very likely to remain above 40 degrees Celsius over isolated pockets in the state for the next three days, exacerbating heatwave conditions in vulnerable areas.

Weather changes are anticipated to commence from April 19, with light to moderate rainfall expected at isolated places in north and central Gujarat, as well as some parts of the Saurashtra region. This potential shift could bring temporary relief from the persistent heat.

Regional Temperature Highlights Across Gujarat

On Friday, Surendranagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 41.2 degrees Celsius. Other notable readings included:

  • Ahmedabad and Rajkot: 40.9 degrees Celsius each
  • Gandhinagar and VV Nagar: 40.5 degrees Celsius each
  • Amreli: 40.3 degrees Celsius

These elevated temperatures across multiple districts underscore the widespread nature of the current heat episode affecting Gujarat.
