CHENNAI: TVK's V S Babu took an early lead at the end of the second round of counting of votes in chief minister M K Stalin's Kolathur constituency, securing 8,393 votes, according to official data released by the Election Commission of India on Monday.
Stalin trailed by 7,159 votes, as the contest showed signs of tightening in subsequent rounds. The total votes counted so far stood at 18,758. Election officials said counting was proceeding smoothly amid tight security arrangements. While trends remain preliminary, the early lead has drawn attention to shifting voter preferences in the constituency.
The election results for 2026 are being closely watched across multiple states, including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry. In West Bengal, a tight race is expected as the Trinamool Congress faces a challenge from the Bharatiya Janata Party. In Tamil Nadu, the key question is whether incumbent chief minister M K Stalin can retain power or if the AIADMK will stage a comeback.
