A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 24-year-old scooterist from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on Monday morning in Ponda, Goa. The incident occurred at Mardol when a car allegedly rammed into his two-wheeler, leading to fatal injuries.

Details of the Accident

The victim has been identified as Sourabh Dhere, a resident of Kolhapur. According to the Mardol police, the accused driver, Anand Pawar, 57, a resident of Curti, Ponda, was allegedly driving his car in a rash and negligent manner. While navigating a curve near the Simepaini slope, Pawar lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with Dhere's oncoming scooter.

The impact of the collision was severe, throwing Dhere onto the road. He sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to Goa Medical College (GMC) for emergency treatment. However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Police Action

The body of the deceased has been preserved at the GMC mortuary for post-mortem examination. The Mardol police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Anand Pawar under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for causing death due to rash and negligent driving. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain further details of the incident.
