In a tragic incident in Vijayapura district, four members of the same family lost their lives when the roof of their rented house collapsed in Moratagi village, Almel taluk, late Thursday night following heavy rains.
Victims Identified
The deceased were identified as Gurunath Badiger (35), his wife Jyoti Badiger (28), and their daughters Kalamma Badiger (13) and Keerti Badiger (9). Gurunath's mother, Shantabai, stated that Gurunath was her elder son and managed all family affairs. She explained that the family was living in a rented house while renovating their ancestral home. The family had no agricultural land or other property, and Gurunath worked as a carpenter and daily wage laborer. His son Veeresh (10), who was sleeping with his grandmother in another house, survived the incident.
Officials Visit and Compensation
District Minister MB Patil, Sindagi MLA Ashok Managuli, and other elected representatives visited the village to console the grieving family. Patil announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each deceased, totaling Rs 20 lakh, which will be placed in a fixed deposit in the name of the surviving boy, Veeresh Badiger. Additional personal compensation will also be provided to the family.
Vijayapura Deputy Commissioner Anand K, ZP CEO Rishi Anand, Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi, and other officials visited the spot and monitored the relief operations carried out by fire and emergency services personnel.
