Mysuru Stadium to Get Modern Tensile Membrane Roofing for Spectator Gallery
Mysuru Stadium to Get Modern Tensile Membrane Roofing

The Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Mysuru, which has been a landmark since its establishment in 1969, is poised for a significant upgrade. A new spectators' seating gallery is being constructed, featuring a modern tensile membrane structure—a high-strength flexible fabric roofing system. This project, with an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore, is already underway and is expected to be completed well before the upcoming Dasara festivities.

Addressing Long-Standing Concerns

With a seating capacity of nearly 25,000, the stadium has hosted numerous sporting and cultural events for over five decades. However, the lack of adequately covered seating has been a persistent issue, especially during extreme weather conditions such as intense heat or heavy rain. To address this, authorities have initiated the installation of a tensile membrane roofing system for the spectators' gallery. This system is similar to the one implemented at the DYES swimming pool in the city.

Enhanced Comfort and Noise Reduction

The new roofing system is designed to shield spectators from both heat and rain, significantly improving comfort throughout the year. The material provides shade and helps maintain a cooler environment beneath it, according to officials. Additionally, the tensile membrane system minimizes noise during rainfall. Unlike conventional roofing, it reduces the sound of raindrops, allowing events to continue with minimal disturbance.

Bhaskar Nayak, Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, confirmed that the project began two months ago and is progressing as scheduled. Officials expressed confidence that the new gallery will enhance spectator facilities while preserving the stadium's role as a major venue in the region.
