Mysuru Hits 37.2°C in April, Green Cover at 14%

Mysuru experienced its highest maximum temperature of the season, reaching 37.2 degrees Celsius on April 24, according to officials from the Indian Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru. The city also recorded 36 degrees Celsius on March 27, marking a significant rise in summer heat.

Temperature Trends in Mysuru

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the April reading is the highest so far this year. The temperature spike comes amid growing concerns over urban heat island effects and inadequate green cover in the city.

Green Cover Deficit

Currently, Mysuru has a green cover of only 14%, far below the recommended 33% as per urban planning norms. This deficit exacerbates heat retention and reduces natural cooling, impacting local climate and livability.

Environmentalists and urban planners have called for urgent measures to increase tree plantation and preserve existing green spaces. The IMD data underscores the need for sustainable urban development to mitigate rising temperatures.
