Technical Details of the Airborne Survey
The survey employs advanced multi-sensor technology, including magnetic gradiometers and radiometer sensors, which require aircraft to maintain low altitudes for precise data collection. To achieve this, the operation utilizes Cessna Caravan 208B aircraft under a wet lease arrangement.
Xcalibur McPhar Private Limited has engaged these aircraft, operated by Xcalibur Aviation (Australia) Private Limited and managed by Himalayan Heli Services Limited. The entire operation has received full authorization from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), ensuring compliance with all aviation safety regulations.
Operational Scope and Timeline
Two foreign-registered aircraft are actively deployed across various districts in Karnataka as part of this extensive survey. Mangaluru and Shivamogga airports serve as the primary base stations for these operations.
The survey is scheduled to continue until July 31, 2024, with prolonged low-level flying expected across multiple parts of the state. Officials have emphasized that residents may witness these aircraft at lower altitudes throughout the survey period.
