Details of the Heartbreaking Incident
The attack occurred in Minauhni village, where the infant was lying on a cot in the courtyard of her family home. Her mother was inside the kitchen preparing food at the time. According to local reports, the leopard entered the premises around 8 pm, seizing the baby in its jaws.
Upon noticing the attack, the mother raised an immediate alarm. This prompted the father and nearby villagers to rush to the scene. Startled by the sudden commotion, the leopard dropped the infant a short distance away before fleeing toward the nearby forest, as confirmed by locals to police authorities.

Despite all efforts, the infant succumbed to her injuries during treatment, marking a profound loss for the family and community.
Widespread Panic and Community Response
This tragic event has triggered widespread panic throughout Minauhni village. Residents are now confining themselves indoors as a precautionary measure, with parents strictly prohibiting children from venturing outside. Official Actions and Investigation
In response to the incident, authorities have taken immediate steps to address the situation. Sub-divisional officer Manoj Singh announced that surveillance has been intensified in the area, with dedicated teams deployed to monitor leopard movements and prevent further incidents.
DFO Balrampur Gaurav Garg informed that the forest department has launched a thorough investigation into the attack. The probe aims to understand the circumstances leading to this tragedy and to develop strategies for mitigating future human-wildlife conflicts in the district.
