The Karnataka government has officially issued an order implementing a free bus pass scheme for all school and college students across the state. This initiative applies to buses operated by the four state transport corporations.
In-Principle Approval Granted
According to an official statement, the government has granted in-principle approval to extend the free bus pass facility to every student in Karnataka. The scheme covers all state-run transport services, ensuring students can travel without any fare.
Key Details of the Scheme
The order was issued on June 5, 2026, and aims to reduce the financial burden on students and their families. The four transport corporations include the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC).
