India-Norway Green Partnership: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the Green Strategic Partnership between India and Norway will significantly strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas such as renewable energy, climate change, and the ocean economy. He made the remarks after holding talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in New Delhi.

Key Areas of Cooperation

The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including trade and investment, defense and security, and people-to-people ties. However, the focus was on the Green Strategic Partnership, which was launched in 2020. Under this partnership, both countries aim to collaborate on sustainable development and green technologies.

Renewable Energy

India and Norway will work together to promote solar, wind, and hydropower projects. Norway's expertise in offshore wind energy will be particularly valuable for India's ambitious renewable energy targets.

Climate Change

The partnership will also address climate change mitigation and adaptation. Both nations committed to sharing best practices and technology to reduce carbon emissions.

Ocean Economy

Norway's advanced knowledge in ocean management and blue economy will help India sustainably utilize its marine resources. This includes fisheries, aquaculture, and maritime transport.

Other Discussions

In addition to environmental issues, PM Modi and PM Store discussed expanding bilateral trade and investment. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including the situation in Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific region.

The Norwegian Prime Minister is on a three-day visit to India, aimed at deepening ties between the two countries. This visit is expected to give a new impetus to the bilateral relationship, particularly in the context of the Green Strategic Partnership.
