Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has urged Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to ensure an uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG cylinders for the smooth conduct of the Char Dham Yatra. Puri assured full support, reiterating the central government's commitment to safeguarding the state's interests.
During a meeting in Delhi, Dhami highlighted the surge in demand for LPG during the annual pilgrimage, which runs from April to November and attracts millions of devotees to Uttarakhand. He said the state requires approximately 9.67 lakh commercial LPG cylinders during this period.
Citing the region's mountainous terrain, the Chief Minister stated, “LPG is critical not only for hospitality services but also for disaster management and relief operations.” He sought an additional 5% allocation—around 48,397 cylinders—to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities.
Dhami underlined that Uttarakhand's economy is heavily dependent on tourism, particularly religious and adventure travel, with the Char Dham Yatra forming its backbone in terms of faith, culture, and economic activity.
