Train Disruptions in Bengaluru Due to Channasandra Yard Remodelling
Train services in Bengaluru are experiencing significant disruptions as the South Western Railway undertakes remodelling work at the Channasandra yard. The project, aimed at improving infrastructure and increasing capacity, has led to the cancellation and rescheduling of several trains, causing inconvenience for daily commuters and long-distance passengers alike.
Affected Routes and Services
The remodelling work has primarily impacted trains operating on the Bengaluru-Kolar, Bengaluru-Bangarpet, and Bengaluru-Krishnarajapuram sections. Key trains affected include the Kolar-Bengaluru passenger, Bangarpet-Bengaluru MEMU, and several express trains that pass through the Channasandra yard. Commuters have reported delays ranging from 30 minutes to over an hour during peak hours.
Duration and Schedule
The South Western Railway has announced that the remodelling work will continue until March 31, 2025. During this period, a total of 12 trains have been cancelled, while 18 others will be partially cancelled or rescheduled. Passengers are advised to check the revised timetable on the official railway website or app before planning their journey.
Alternative Arrangements
To mitigate the inconvenience, the railway authorities have arranged for additional bus services from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on the affected routes. Special shuttle trains have also been introduced between Bengaluru and Krishnarajapuram to ease the pressure on commuters.
Impact on Daily Commuters
Daily passengers, especially those traveling from Kolar and Bangarpet to Bengaluru for work, have been the worst hit. Many have expressed frustration over the lack of timely communication and inadequate alternative arrangements. Local resident and regular commuter Ravi Kumar said, "The delays have been unpredictable, and we are forced to leave home much earlier to reach office on time."
Long-term Benefits
Despite the short-term disruptions, the remodelling project is expected to bring long-term benefits, including smoother train operations, reduced congestion, and enhanced safety at the Channasandra yard. The South Western Railway has urged passengers to cooperate and bear with the temporary inconvenience for better railway infrastructure in the future.
