Visakhapatnam: In a significant step toward strengthening the maritime defense and surveillance framework of the state, the new Coastal Security Police building in Visakhapatnam was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by Andhra Pradesh DGP Harish Kumar Gupta. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to serve as a nerve center for coastal monitoring, intelligence gathering, and rapid response operations along the state's extensive coastline.
Inaugural Ceremony and Review
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gopinath Jatti IPS, Coastal Security Police officials, and other police personnel. DGP Harish Kumar Gupta reviewed the functioning of the coastal security police, including preventive measures taken at beaches, beach patrolling details, life-saving efforts, community outreach programs, and the performance and impact of village vigilance committees. He also assessed the functioning of the special intelligence unit in coastal security, as well as the equipment and vehicles available to the coastal security wing.
Induction of APSP Platoons and Awareness Programs
The DGP also reviewed the induction of three platoons of APSP (Andhra Pradesh Special Police). He examined awareness programs on environmental conservation, particularly regarding olive ridley turtles, as well as drug awareness initiatives. Other activities reviewed included night halts, flag hoisting on islands, and naval NCC programs. The DGP appreciated the initiatives taken by the coastal security police and assured them of all necessary infrastructure and other requirements to further strengthen the coastal security police.
This development underscores the state government's commitment to enhancing coastal security and ensuring the safety of its maritime borders. The new facility is expected to play a pivotal role in coordinating surveillance and response efforts along the coast.
