Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is standing firmly behind a controversial mega-development linked to Jared Kushner, despite growing protests, environmental concerns and an anti-corruption investigation.
Rama Dismisses Criticism
Speaking to The Associated Press, Rama dismissed criticism as misinformation and argued that the project reflects Albania’s growing appeal to major international investors. The development has become a flashpoint in Albania, drawing scrutiny from activists and political opponents while the government promotes it as a major economic opportunity.
Project Details
The Sazan project, spearheaded by Kushner’s firm, aims to transform the island of Sazan into a luxury tourism destination. However, environmental groups have raised alarms about potential damage to the island’s ecosystem, and local residents have voiced concerns over displacement and lack of transparency.
Anti-Corruption Probe
An anti-corruption investigation is underway, focusing on the bidding process and alleged irregularities in land deals. Rama has vowed to cooperate with investigators but insists the project is clean and beneficial for Albania.
Despite mounting opposition, Rama remains resolute, stating that the project will proceed as planned. He emphasized that Albania is open for business and that such investments are crucial for the country’s economic future.
