Trichy: Two months after the Iran-Israel conflict disrupted flight operations between Trichy and Gulf countries, Air India Express is set to resume services between Trichy and Sharjah starting Saturday. The frequency of Trichy-Dubai services has also increased from Friday.
Resumption Details
Trichy airport sources confirmed that the resumed services will continue until May 31, with potential extensions based on the evolving situation. The additional and resumed flights are expected to benefit Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in the Middle East returning home for summer vacations.
Impact on Passenger Footfall
The disruption had reduced international passenger footfall at Trichy airport by up to 37% in March. Airport sources indicated that the resumption of seven weekly services to the Gulf will significantly increase passenger numbers.
Flight Schedule
- Trichy-Dubai flights: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
- Trichy-Sharjah flights: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Benefits for Exporters
Exporters, who faced challenges due to lack of connectivity between Trichy and UAE airports, expressed optimism. The restored flights will help tap demand for vegetables and flowers, particularly in Dubai and Sharjah, post the Iran-Israel conflict. S S Raju, Trichy airport director, stated, “Around 5 tonnes of space in each flight can be utilized for export cargo operations, so we expect more international services to resume from Trichy.”
