43 HPC-D cadres surrender arms in Mizoram, state now free of active insurgent groups

Aizawl: Forty-three cadres of the underground Hmar People’s Convention – Democratic (HPC-D), the Lalhmingthanga Sanate faction, surrendered their arms at a ‘home coming and laying down of arms’ ceremony held at the Central Training Institute ground in Sesawng village on Thursday. With this development, Mizoram no longer has any active underground ethnic insurgent groups.

Addressing the event, Chief Minister Lalduhoma observed that discussions on peace in Mizoram have long been intertwined with the issue of HPC (D). He reiterated that the government has consistently remained open to dialogue and commended the home minister and his team for their tireless efforts in achieving this breakthrough. He affirmed that Mizoram can now confidently be described as a truly peaceful state.

Call for Unity

Emphasising unity, the Chief Minister said there are no divisions within the Mizo community, and that all share a common identity as Mizo. Any attempt to create divisions, he asserted, will not succeed. He called upon all sections of society to stand united and move forward together.
