In a major drug bust, police in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh seized over 147 kg of cannabis from a house on Friday afternoon. One person was arrested in connection with the seizure, officials said.
Details of the Raid
The operation was conducted in the Warla police station area. Sendhwa sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) Ajay Waghmare informed that a tip-off was received about a large quantity of cannabis concealed in a house in Brahmane Falya locality of Panjariya village.
A police team led by Warla SHO Narayan Rawal raided the premises. During the search, they recovered 29 plastic bags hidden behind stacks of grain sacks. The bags contained a total of 147 kg of cannabis, estimated to be worth Rs 32.34 lakh, Waghmare added.
Arrest and Legal Action
The house owner, Shantilal Barela, was not present at the time of the raid. However, his nephew, Badiya alias Kamis Barela (21), was present and was detained. During questioning, he allegedly admitted ownership of the contraband, following which he was arrested.
A case has been registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Warla police station. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the cannabis and any possible links to a wider drug network.
The police have urged the public to share any information about drug-related activities in the area.
