Kochi: Two women were taken into custody on Monday in connection with a human trafficking network that operated under the guise of modelling activities in Maradu. The accused are believed to be part of a gang that lured young women by promising them modelling assignments in Dubai, only to subject them to exploitation, according to police officials.
Arrests Made Following Victim Complaints
The Maradu police initiated the arrests after receiving complaints from the victims. The women were trapped through false promises and subsequently transported to Dubai, where they were allegedly confined in undisclosed locations. Police stated that the victims were forcibly administered narcotic substances and exploited while in an unconscious state. The gang is also accused of recording visuals and photographs to use as leverage for threatening the victims.
Broader Network Under Investigation
Authorities have indicated that a larger network is suspected to be operating behind this racket. A detailed investigation is currently underway to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify other individuals involved. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
This case highlights the dangers of fraudulent job offers and the need for vigilance among job seekers. The investigation continues as authorities work to dismantle the trafficking network.
