Salem: Two individuals drowned in the Cauvery River at the foot of the Mettur Dam on Sunday, according to police reports.
Incident Details
The deceased have been identified as Susilkumar, 17, son of Mani from Periyampatti in Dharmapuri district, and an unidentified man estimated to be around 40 years old. Susilkumar had gone to bathe in the river with his relatives when he accidentally ventured into deep water and was swept away, as he did not know how to swim. Despite efforts by his relatives to rescue him, they were unsuccessful.
Search and Recovery
Upon being alerted, fire and rescue personnel, along with local police, launched a search operation. During the search for the boy, they recovered the body of an unidentified man. After prolonged efforts, rescuers later retrieved Susilkumar’s body as well. Police took custody of both bodies and sent them for postmortem at the Mettur Government Hospital.
Legal Proceedings
Two separate cases have been registered, and further investigation is ongoing. The police are working to identify the unknown man and determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
