A medical aspirant was arrested on Sunday in Varanasi after security personnel discovered a SIM card, an old question paper from the medical entrance exam, and adhesive material concealed in his undergarments during pre-examination frisking. The incident occurred at Harishchandra Post Graduate College in the Maidagin area, which served as a designated exam centre for the Re-NEET UG 2026 test.
Recovery During Frisking
According to police sources, security personnel grew suspicious while frisking the candidate before the test began. A thorough search led to the recovery of the items hidden in his undergarments. Following the discovery, the candidate was immediately taken into custody.
Identification and Interrogation
During initial interrogation, the detained student identified himself as Prince Dubey, a resident of Ballia district. Dubey told police that he had been staying in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, to prepare for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and had travelled to Varanasi specifically to take the examination.
“The candidate was found with a SIM card, an old question paper, and adhesive material. He has been arrested, and further investigation is underway,” a police official said.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are conducting further investigation and legal proceedings. The incident has raised concerns about exam security and cheating attempts in high-stakes medical entrance exams. Authorities are examining whether the candidate was part of a larger network involved in exam fraud.
