The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in coordination with the local police, successfully dismantled an organized drug trafficking syndicate in Motihari, located in the East Champaran district, on Sunday. The operation led to the arrest of two smugglers and the seizure of over Rs 70 lakh in cash, a currency counting machine, and approximately 400 kilograms of banned narcotics, specifically doda (poppy husk), from the accused individuals.
Raids and Seizures
The raids were conducted at multiple locations, including hideouts in the Panitanki Chandmari and Janpul areas under the Town police jurisdiction. Acting on a tip-off, the NCB targeted the syndicate's operations, which were allegedly run under the guise of a grocery shop.
Key Accused Identified
The primary accused, Pappu Prasad, a grocery trader from Miskot under the Town police station, was identified as the mastermind behind the illegal trade. He reportedly used his shop as a cover to run the drug supply network. To avoid detection, Prasad did not store the contraband at his home or shop but instead used rented premises for storage and distribution.
The NCB officials stated that the syndicate had a well-organized network, and the seized cash and equipment indicate the scale of their operations. Further investigations are underway to trace other links in the chain and to determine the source and destination of the narcotics.
