Mock Drill Held to Check Flood Preparedness Across Haryana State
Mock Drill Tests Haryana's Flood Preparedness

The Haryana government conducted a comprehensive mock drill across the state to evaluate its preparedness for potential flood situations. The exercise, held under the directive of the state disaster management authority, aimed at testing the coordination and efficiency of various departments in responding to flood emergencies.

Simulation of Real-Life Scenarios

During the drill, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), civil administration, police, health, and fire services participated in simulated rescue and relief operations. The drill covered multiple districts, focusing on areas prone to flooding, such as low-lying regions and riverbanks. Teams practiced evacuating residents from affected zones, setting up relief camps, and providing medical aid to injured individuals.

Key Objectives and Observations

The primary objective was to identify gaps in the existing response mechanism and improve coordination among agencies. Officials monitored the response time, communication channels, and resource deployment. The exercise also tested the functionality of early warning systems and the availability of essential supplies like boats, life jackets, and food packets.

According to a spokesperson from the disaster management department, the mock drill was successful in highlighting areas that require immediate attention. “We have noted the response times and logistical challenges. These will be addressed in future training sessions and resource allocation,” he said.

Community Involvement and Awareness

Residents in vulnerable areas were also involved in the drill to raise awareness about safety measures during floods. Pamphlets were distributed, and announcements were made through public address systems to educate people on evacuation procedures and emergency contacts.

The state government has emphasized the importance of regular drills to ensure that all stakeholders are well-prepared for any natural calamity. With the monsoon season approaching, such exercises are crucial to minimize loss of life and property.
