Jharkhand to Host First National Forest Fair in Sep-Oct

The state forest department of Jharkhand has initiated preparations to host its maiden national-level forest fair, scheduled to take place between September and October this year. On Thursday, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Sanjeev Kumar convened a meeting with all key stakeholders to discuss and finalize the modalities for the event.

Planning and Coordination

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various aspects of the fair, including the event framework, allocation of responsibilities, publicity, promotion, and other necessary arrangements. PCCF Kumar emphasized the importance of a well-structured plan to ensure the fair's success. He stated, 'Discussions were held on the event framework, allocation of responsibilities, publicity, promotion, and other necessary arrangements.'

Objectives and Benefits

The primary objective of the fair is to create a common platform for buyers and sellers of minor forest produce from Jharkhand. This initiative is expected to attract industries and enterprises related to forest-based products to the state. The fair will be open to the general public and stakeholders, offering them an opportunity to explore, experience, buy, and sell a wide range of products. These include minor forest produce, medicinal plants, herbal products, natural wellness products, and green industries. The event aims to consolidate these offerings at one location, making it a one-stop destination for forest-based goods.

Impact on Local Communities

Beyond trade, the fair is designed to promote livelihood enhancement for forest dwellers, tribal communities, and rural populations. By facilitating forest-based economic activities, the event will help these communities generate sustainable income. Kumar added, 'It will provide the general public and stakeholders a platform to explore, experience, buy, and sell minor forest produce, medicinal plants, herbal products, natural wellness products, and green industries at one place. Overall, it will help promote livelihood enhancement for forest dwellers, tribal communities, and rural people through forest-based economic activities.'

As the preparations move forward, the forest department is working closely with various stakeholders to ensure a successful and impactful event. The fair is expected to not only boost the local economy but also raise awareness about the potential of forest-based products and sustainable practices.
