A female Indian bison, also known as a gaur, died after becoming entangled in barbed wire in a private field within the Bandhavgarh forest area on Monday. The animal had been recently translocated from the Satpura Tiger Reserve to Bandhavgarh as part of conservation efforts.
Incident Details
Officials from the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve reported that the Indian bison wandered into the fields of a local farmer and got caught in the barbed wire fencing surrounding the private farm. Forest personnel, along with villagers, attempted to free the animal, but it had already succumbed to its injuries by the time they arrived.
Post-Mortem and Disposal
Body samples were collected for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Following the examination, the carcass was cremated in accordance with standard procedures. Authorities have urged farmers in the region to ensure secure fencing to prevent such incidents.
