The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reiterated India's steadfast commitment to strengthening Afghanistan's healthcare system. In a recent development, India gifted a consignment of medical equipment to Afghan health authorities, aimed at enhancing diagnosis, treatment, and specialized care.
Details of the Medical Aid
On Wednesday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced via a post on X that the medical equipment includes neonatal and pediatric care devices, cardiograph machines, ventilators, patient monitors, maxillofacial electrocautery, plastic surgery sets, and specialized medical kits. This assistance underscores India's ongoing support for Afghanistan's health sector.
India's Broader Commitment to Afghanistan
Earlier on Tuesday, the MEA reaffirmed India's focus on fostering peace, stability, and development in Afghanistan through sustained humanitarian assistance, development cooperation, and capacity-building initiatives. During a weekly media briefing, Jaiswal addressed remarks made by India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, at a UNSC meeting on Afghanistan. He emphasized that India's position remains unchanged, centered on supporting the Afghan people.
Jaiswal stated, "India and Afghanistan are contiguous neighbors and civilizational states. Our ties have spanned centuries." He added that India continues to support Afghanistan through initiatives related to food security, healthcare, and pharmaceutical assistance, while also providing scholarships and capacity-building opportunities.
Focus on Peace and Stability
India stands in favor of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region to foster development and stability. The development cooperation includes long-standing friendship and continued efforts in food security, medicine, pharma support, and health. This latest medical equipment donation is a tangible step in that direction, reflecting India's humanitarian approach to its neighbor.
The medical equipment is expected to significantly boost Afghanistan's healthcare infrastructure, enabling better diagnosis and treatment for patients, especially in neonatal and pediatric care, cardiology, and surgery. The specialized kits will aid in addressing critical medical needs in the country.
