A tigress carcass was recovered from a farm well in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district on Sunday, with forest officials detaining the farm owner and another person for questioning on Monday. Preliminary investigations revealed that an illegal electric trap set up near the farmland in Chargaon village along the Seoni-Chhindwara highway caused the electrocution. Burnt wires and electrical pegs were recovered from near the well.
Investigation Details
Divisional forest officer Mahendra Singh Uikey stated that the carcass was dumped in the well to mislead investigators. Critical evidence has been recovered from the site, and all angles are being examined. The post-mortem report confirmed electrocution as the cause of death and noted that the claws of the tigress's hind legs were missing. Incidentally, the farm owner had called the forest department to report that a tiger had fallen into his well.
Rising Concerns Over Wildlife Safety
This incident brings the number of big cat deaths in the state to 27 this year, raising concerns about wildlife safety. Recently, a male tiger cub was found dead in the Sarhi range of Kanha National Park days after its sibling died in the same area. In Balaghat district, a tiger carcass was recovered in the East Baihar forest range.
The forest department has urged the public to share any relevant information, assuring confidentiality as the investigation continues.
