Belagavi: In a major step towards strengthening sports infrastructure, the Belagavi Urban Development Authority (Buda) has floated an e-tender for the construction of a state-of-the-art synthetic turf multi-sports ground in the Belagavi North constituency. The project, estimated at Rs 2.2 crore, aims to provide athletes in the city with facilities that meet national standards.
Project Details and Sustainability Plan
According to the tender notification, the project has been included under Buda’s subsidised development works. The initiative goes beyond infrastructure creation, incorporating a revenue sustainability plan to ensure long-term financial viability. This is expected to support the maintenance, management and future operational costs of the facility, making it self-sustaining. The selected contractor must complete the work within six months, factoring in the monsoon season.
Addressing Infrastructure Shortage
Belagavi city and its surrounding areas currently face a shortage of quality sports grounds, posing challenges for athletes in accessing adequate training facilities. The proposed synthetic turf ground is expected to bridge this gap significantly. It will cater to multiple sports, including football, cricket and hockey, and support year-round usage, thereby boosting sporting activities in the region.
Tender Timeline
The last date for submission of bids is July 17. Technical bids will be opened on July 18, while the date for opening financial bids will be announced separately on the e-procurement portal.
